When purchasing tire chains it is important to match the type of chain to the use intended.  A driver that needs a set of chains to go over mountainous regions will want a light set that is easy to install at the road side.  Durability is not the issue in this case.  Avoid double or triple sets as this complicates installation at the road side.

For mining and forestry equipment, where sets will stay on the equipment for months in snow ice and mud, durability is a greater issue and installation can be done once with more equipment than is available at road side.  We recommend larger diameter chain, doubles or triples and perhaps even studded sets.
